AN ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE HISTORY OF THE DWIGHT NEIGHBORHOOD

The quality of the air today in Dwight is a result of a long history. Changing climate, different uses of the land, new developments in mobility and emerging lifestyle habits all had have an impact on air quality. We looked at the history of the neighborhood from the perspective of environmental justice: the right to a safe, healthy, productive, and sustainable environment for all. We asked questions such as: Why does Dwight have higher levels of air pollution than other parts of New Haven? How has the development of the neighborhood lead to changes in pollution levels?
